Yasin Williams is a first-generation graduate student at the University of Minnesota Hubert H. Humphrey School of Public Affairs pursuing a Master's in Public Policy. His focus is on social policy, particularly racial equity policy in all issue areas. Yasin graduated from Saint John's University in Collegeville, MN with a bachelor's degree in History and a minor in Philosophy. After graduating, Yasin served as a senior mediator and consumer assistance analyst for the Minnesota Attorney General's Office, specializing in residential utilities. He worked at this state agency for three years before joining Robins Kaplan LLP, a national litigation firm, as their diversity and inclusion coordinator to help implement DEI initiatives and strategies. Then, he returned to his alma mater upon request as an associate director of annual giving to help grow a student scholarship fund for students from low- socioeconomic backgrounds. At the Humphrey School, Yasin serves as the student coalition chair for the Humphrey Student of Color Association. After graduation, Yasin hopes to deconstruct systemic racial inequities across all sectors and issue areas as an expert, creative, and innovative racial equity consultant. Ultimately, Yasin wants to establish a racial equity consultant agency of his own. Yasin envisions this agency will help global organizations, coalitions, philanthropy, and government agencies develop, implement, and advocate for innovative policy solutions to complex racial equity issues.
