Shani Campbell is a lifelong student, educator, and dedicated advocate for justice. After a transformative year of AmeriCorps service in Washington, D.C., she became a social justice educator, teaching upper-level courses on dialogic practice and social policy in a U.S. context at The Program On Intergroup Relations. This experience propelled her into a career in Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI).
Shani served in the Office of Diversity, Equity & Inclusion at the University of Michigan, overseeing strategic planning for multicultural education programs. Later, she became the Head of DEI & Outreach for the Aerospace Engineering program. Transitioning to public service for the City of Detroit, Shani worked as a policy analyst and racial equity lead on homelessness in the Housing & Revitalization Department. Amid the 2020 pandemic, Shani managed $4.3 million in ESG-CV funds and $50 million in CERA funds to combat homelessness through indirect cash assistance and eviction prevention. Now a graduate student at Georgetown, Shani serves proudly as a National Urban Fellow at the Prudential Foundation. Her expertise and advocacy for Black colleges, place-based philanthropy, and reparations continue to flourish.
