Kamilah was born in San Francisco, California and moved with her family to Seattle, Washington at age four, where she started and completed grade school. After high school, Kamilah returned to the Bay Area where she received her Bachelor of Arts in Legal Studies from University of California, Berkeley in 2018. Before returning to graduate school, Kamilah worked at a small civil trial law firm and criminal legal reform nonprofit for two years in Oakland, California. Currently, Kamilah attends UCLA Luskin School of Public Policy where she is pursuing her Master of Public Policy. Her research and career interests lie at the nexus of race, inequality and American carceral systems. Through attaining a Master of Public Policy, she hopes to create systemic change that promotes human dignity and advances the liberation of oppressed communities through thoughtful, equity-driven public policy. In her time away from work and school, you can find Kamilah in the kitchen cooking for her loved ones, at the gym, or spending time with her beloved animals.
