Jennifer Perales is a graduate student at the LBJ School of Public Affairs pursuing a Master of Public Affairs. Her area of focus is media, voting rights, non-profit studies, and Mexican American and Latina/o/x studies, and her interests include the undoing of voting rights throughout the state of Texas. Jennifer graduated from the University of Texas with a degree in Radio, Television, and Film, specializing in documentaries. After graduating, Jennifer worked with Fox Sports and Disney Streaming in Houston, Texas. As her time with the stations came to a close, she interned with Battleground Texas as their first intern in social media for the non-profit organization.
Eventually, Jennifer combined both passions for programming media and documentaries into an internship with both Comedy Central and Smithsonian channels assisting with the initiatives in creating programming for the network. Since returning to Austin, Jennifer has spent her time working as a volunteer for political campaigns, where she created a documentary on registering to vote in Texas. At the LBJ School, Jennifer served as a co-chair for the Barbara Jordan National Forum. After graduation, Jennifer hopes to continue her work in media policy and advocacy for voting rights, focusing on Mexican American and Latin-American registration and representation in media.
