Jason Ponterotto is currently a senior at Howard University majoring in Journalism and minoring in Afro-American Studies. His pursuit for a career in journalism stems from his passion for writing and speaking on matters relating to social justice, race, politics, and African American history as well as leadership roles when it comes to these areas. His journalistic interests stemmed from being exposed in his early years to the harsh realities of injustice when it comes to communities of color. He realized the importance of education and diversity, benefiting from his unique position as a biracial male, and growing up in a predominantly Irish Catholic and Jewish neighborhood. Since transferring to Howard, he has become immersed in multiple student organizations such as The Hilltop Newspaper, Howard University Association of Black Journalists, and the Howard University College Democrats. Despite the obstacles of COVID-19, he continues to be involved with virtual activities around his career interests and looks forward to opportunities to enhance his career path.
