1. Why did this fund exist?

   The Afghan Welcome Fund exists to provide funding which will help cover the costs of essential living expenses related to restarting a new life in the US following departure from Afghanistan. Examples include down payment for rental housing, clothing expenses, food, other shelter, and medical expenses. 

2. Who was eligible for this funding? 

   Families who departed Afghanistan after August 14, 2021 and are not currently in the official US Government resettlement process are eligible to be nominated for this funding. Families who had a presence in the US before but were in Afghanistan during the crisis are still eligible.

3. Could someone receive a grant if they are being held for processing on a military base?

   No. Grant requests may be submitted but the grantees will not be eligible to receive funding until they have completed the USG resettlement process. We will review this policy as more information becomes available. 

4. Did Globally transfer funds abroad?

   No. The Afghan Welcome Assistance Fund is currently only supporting individuals within the United States. 

5. What were funds used for? 

   Funds should provide for the immediate needs of Afghans as they begin life anew in the United States. Examples of immediate needs include, food, clothing, housing, transportation. 

6. How were funds distributed?

   The Afghan Welcome Assistance Fund transfers funds to recipients through PayPal, electronic wire transfers, or check. 

7. How were grants approved?

   Grant requests will be reviewed on a rolling basis in the order in which they are received. Funds will be distributed in the order in which they are qualified.  

8. How long did it take to receive the funds once approved?

   Grantees can expect to receive funds within one week of receiving an approval email.
