Abril Hunter
Abril Hunter is a Graduate Student at Georgetown McCourt School of Public Policy, where she is embarking on a journey to pursue a Master's in Public Policy. Abril completed her undergraduate studies at Florida State University, earning a B.S. in Environmental Science and Policy with minors in Urban and Regional Planning and Social Welfare with a Summa Cum Laude distinction.
Abril's interest in environmental science was sparked during eighth grade when she discovered the harsh reality of environmental racism through the infamous Flint, Michigan Water Crisis. This pivotal moment ignited a fire within her to seek solutions, challenge systemic inequities, and work towards a more just and sustainable future. With a deep-rooted passion for social justice, Abril aspires to create meaningful and tangible changes in the lives of minorities facing environmental injustice, particularly in the realm of legacy pollution.
Armed with her extensive academic background and national recognition as the first Black Truman Scholar, Hollings Scholar, and Udall Scholar, Abril is poised to make a significant impact in the field of public policy. She is driven by her desire to ensure equitable access to a clean and safe environment for all communities, using her expertise to shape policies that address environmental justice issues head-on.
