Priscilla Lugo is a daughter to Mexican immigrants from the South Texas border and graduated from The University of Texas at Austin with her BA in English and Women & Gender Studies. She is continuing her education at The University of Texas as a dual Masters candidate in Public Affairs and Women & Gender Studies and studies discrimination in the immigration/asylum system. She has previously worked with pro immigration groups like Refugee Services of Texas and the Workers Defense Project, and with organizations like Annie’s List looking to increase the amount of democratic women in public office in Texas. She is currently working on her Master’s thesis on Mexican asylum seekers and the role the borderlands play in creating marginal spaces in the asylum system.
