Nancy Olivares is a graduate student at UCLA Luskin School of Public Affairs pursuing a Master’s in Public Policy. Her area of focus is in tech and education - researching how the lack of access to technology disproportionally impacts BIPOC children & youth. Nancy graduated from UC San Diego with a degree in Political Science and Communications. After graduating, Nancy interned at the House Democratic Caucus in Congress under then Caucus Chair Congressmember Xavier Becerra. After returning to East Los Angeles, she went on to work at the office of Los Angeles County Supervisor Hilda Solis. Over the past few years, Nancy has worked advocating for policies to improve the wellbeing of children and youth at The Children’s Partnership – a California state-wide children’s issues policy and advocacy non-profit. Currently, at the Luskin School of Public Affairs, she is a Graduate Student Researcher for the UCLA Pritzker Center for Strengthening Children and Families and a Board Member at the Latinx Caucus. After graduation, Nancy hopes to continue championing policies in tech that will bridge the digital divide and remove barriers to entry that exists among BIPOC children and youth in this field.
