Jose Garcia is a graduate student at the UCLA Luskin School of Public Affairs pursuing a Master's in Public Policy, where his focus areas include Technology and Economic Development. Jose was raised in San Diego, California after migrating from Mexico at the age of five. As a DACA recipient, Jose has been a vocal advocate in the fight for immigration reform at the national level. In early 2021, the New York Times published a letter to the editor he wrote urging Congress and the Biden administration to finally pass broad immigration reforms. Before returning to school Jose held positions in the Nonprofit and Philanthropic sector including in the Latino Community Foundation where he worked as a communication strategist. Currently, he is a policy fellow for UCLA's Latino Politics and Policy Initiative. In 2019, he received his Bachelor's from University of California, Davis in Political Science. After graduation, Jose hopes to continue his career by connecting public policy directly to corporate social responsibility and government compliance within the private sector.

Jose Garcia Portillo
