India Reaves is a graduate student at Tennessee State University in Nashville, TN. She is pursuing a Master’s in Public Administration with a graduate certificate in Public Policy. India graduated from North Carolina Central University in Durham, NC, with degrees in History Education and Criminal Justice. She is in her 15th year as a high school Social Studies teacher with Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools. Her specialty areas include Civics & Economics, African American History, and World History. She has served in many capacities, including Department Chair, Profession Learning Team Facilitator, and Social Emotional Learning Coordinator.
India is currently a liaison between the local chapter of the National Alliance of Black School Educators and the WSFCS. In this position, she works with various entities to support hiring and retaining people of color in teaching positions in the local school district. Her passion for equity for all students led her to pursue her graduate degree. After obtaining her master’s degree, India plans to write efficient, effective, and equitable policy and, eventually, legislation supporting public education.
