Refugee Upskilling Program

Helping match newly arrived Afghans with job opportunities in technology.

ReUP aligns with the United Nations #Envision2030 sustainable development goals of promoting inclusive, productive, and decent employment for all, while working to reduce inequality within and among countries.

In collaboration with resettlement organizations and hiring partners nationwide, Globally has launched the Refugee Upskilling Program (ReUP), a new development program focused around matching newly arrived Afghans with meaningful job opportunities in the technology sector.

Around 95,000 Afghans are expected to be resettled in the United States by the end of 2022. The current resettlement process often results in refugees relying on minimum wage jobs instead of opportunities commensurate with their abilities. This requirement delays their ability to access high-skilled employment options in the US job market. ReUP aims to address this disconnect.

ReUP provides participants with both hard and soft skills required to thrive in the US workplace. ReUP cohort members benefit from mentoring, coaching, and coursework, and are able to choose from a number of certification options to help kickstart new careers in technology. New graduates from Globally's Refugee Upskilling Program (ReUP) are matched with partner organizations to increase career path options and integration into the US workforce.

Recently arrived Afghans need jobs and can help meet significant labor shortages.

  • More than 55,000 Afghans have relocated to the United States since mid-August

  • The positive effects of helping refugees into tech jobs are considerable, including higher incomes for their families and expanded professional connections for entire communities

  • Hiring recently arrived Afghans increases cultural diversity in the workplace thanks to their work experience, education, and language skills, making US companies more competitive

  • Employers that hire refugees see lower turnover rates and expand their potential talent pool

“For a newly arrived refugee, such workshop is a must. What I learned here, I am sure I might have not been able to learn all these within the next few months or even years. This workshop not only taught me important lessons, but it also gave me a clear picture of how I can have a successful and happy life in the USA.”

ReUP is seeking additional corporate partners to support our next career workshop cohort.

ReUP Partners Benefit From:

  • Access to a unique database of candidates

  • Tapping into a diverse and qualified talent pool

  • Helping match Afghans to open roles

  • Influencing workshops with custom sessions and curriculum
