Climate change is a pressing global issue that requires urgent action from all sectors. We believe that the best solutions will emerge when talents are combined across sectors. This is why Globally, in partnership with the Embassy of the United Arab Emirates in Washington, D.C. selected 42 Fellows to participate in the Emerging Leaders for Climate Action Program.

Emerging Leaders for Climate Action (ELCA) is a platform bringing together promising young leaders across sectors to collaborate on finding solutions to climate and sustainability issues. Leveraging their skills and expertise, the cohort developed policy recommendations to inform upcoming conversations at COP28 to be held in Dubai in November 2023.

ABOUT COP28 UAE

The UAE will host the 28th Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP28) from November 30 to December 12, 2023 at Expo City Dubai to unite the world towards agreement on bold, practical and ambitious solutions to the most pressing global challenge of our time.

COP28 is of particular significance as it marks the conclusion of the first Global Stocktake, a comprehensive assessment of the progress made in achieving the goals of the Paris Agreement. Acknowledging that the world is off-track, the COP28 Presidency has said it will work to keep the 1.5C goal alive and ensure that the world responds to the Stocktake with a clear plan of action, including measures that need to be put in place to bridge the gaps in progress. Sustainable agriculture will also feature prominently on the agenda at COP28, where participants will seek to spur innovation in how food is grown and produced.

ELCA Fellows developed actionable policy proposals on four crucial areas containing bold solutions to the climate crisis.

Protecting our most vulnerable communities and our most critical systems from extreme weather and biodiversity loss. Ensuring global food system resiliency.

Ensuring equitable access to climate finance. Increasing access to capital dollars and international financial resources.

Developing and deploying new technologies to scale renewable energy and transform agri-tech, water use, and food production.

Supporting vulnerable communities rebuild after natural disasters. Building resiliency to the consequences that will arise from the unavoidable risks of climate change.
